New Orleans Heart - Surgeon in New Orleans, LA

Patient Comments

I had no idea I had AFib until quite accidentally was so informed. Coumadin was not an acceptable option – too life changing. Researched and found Dr. Pigott and Mini Maze procedure. Had the operation June 08. Now a year later I am in permanent normal sinus rhythm and at 71 doing better than I was prior to operation.

I was in persistent AFib for over 5 years. Although the Coumadin treatment was manageable, it was a nuisance due to the required frequent monitoring and the higher risks from bleeding. I even suffered nosebleeds that were difficult to stop. Because Coumadin patients are still at much greater risk for stroke, I was directed to Dr. Pigott by my cardiologist, Dr. Glade. After Dr. Pigott explained the procedure and its high success rate, it was easy for my wife and me to make the decision to have the Mini-Maze procedure. I am now off Coumadin and feel better – both mentally and physically! I would recommend this for anyone with AFib.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with AFIB and prescribed all kinds of medicines that didn’t work. It was hard to live a daily life not knowing what would happen next. An ablation procedure corrected my heart problem for a year. When AFIB returned and medications and cardioversion failed, I thought I was at the end of my road. Then I was referred to Dr. Pigott who described in detail this new procedure he could perform. He was honest with the chance of success I had since my case was extremely challenging. Dr. Pigott corrected my heart rhythm. Since anyone with AFIB is at a risk of stroke, an appointment with Dr. Pigott is a step in the right direction.

Tim, cured patient

For a number of years, atrial fibrillation compromised my lifestyle, threatened my profession and virtually eliminated all sports from my life. Even with the medications from my cardiologist and electrophysiologist, I could barely walk to my car. Then I was referred to Dr. Pigott, who spoke in detail with me about a surgical procedure with a very high percentage of success in restoring normal heart rhythm. It’s been over two years since my mini-maze surgery and my heart has not skipped a single beat . If you’re a candidate for this surgery, you won’t find a more highly skilled and caring surgeon.

After 9 years of AFib and several procedures, I came to Dr. Pigott. He explained all my options and made me feel comfortable. Four days after my open heart maze, I slipped back into AFib, and Dr. Pigott explained this was a normal possibility. He later performed a cardioversion. I have since been removed from all medicines – including blood thinner. I have been AFib free for almost an entire year and I attribute it all to Dr. Pigott and the surgery he performed.

To correct my AFib, I had the Mini-Maze procedure. Dr. Pigott explained in great detail what I could expect. I had very little pain and was sitting in a chair and walking that afternoon and evening. I was seen on time for every appt. and Dr. Pigott’s nurse made us feel like old friends. Anyone with AFib should seriously consider Dr. Pigott’s knowledge and skill to correct AFib.

“Thank you, Dr. Pigott. Because of you I got to dance with my father at my wedding.”

Kem (daughter)

“You saved my life – not once, but twice. First with my LVAD and second with my heart transplant. The compassion and care that you gave me and my family was extraordinary. You never hesitated to explain something again and again if we did not fully understand.”

Al and Beverly

“Continuing with AFib and being on Coumadin was not a viable alternative for me. My cardiologist, Dr. Mark Cassidy, highly recommended Dr. Pigott and the Mini-Maze procedure. After meeting with Dr. Pigott, my husband and I were both very confident in the procedure and in Dr. Pigott. Surgery was scheduled after a complete evaluation, and now, 2 years later, I am still AFib free!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat!!”
